What is a Story Ballet?
In a typical recital, each class goes on stage, performs their dance, and then runs off. With Classical Youth Ballet, we create a story ballet in the spring. A story ballet, also known as a narrative or classical ballet, is a type of performance that tells a story based off of popular literature and in our studio each dancer or class is a character in the story. There are props, stage sets, backdrops, and intricate costumes. Some of the previous Story Ballets that Ms. Michelle has directed are: Peter and the Fairy Circle, based on Peter Pan; The Enchanted Swan Princess, based on Swan Lake; La Danseuse de Ballet, based on the book Madeline; Mary Poppins; Winnie the Pooh; and The Nutcracker. These performances create not only magic on the stage but most importantly magic within your dancer. We've had many people (grandparents, Stage Directors, and professionals included!) praise how entertaining and professional these performances are! Ms. Michelle strives to create beautiful and creative story ballets that your dancer will be excited to be a part of year after year!
